Hi everyone! Today's post is on my new cabled sock pattern: Selenography!
This is the third cable knit sock pattern I have released over the past year; you can find the other two patterns in an earlier blog post here. Of these three sock patterns, Selenography socks are the most elaborate. I have actually been working on this pattern for almost year, at least the written and charted. portions.
Now a note on the name: Selenography is the formal scientific study of the moon’s surface, and its geographical mapping. Most of my knitting patterns have inspiration from nature, including outer space. There are a lot of ideas available when it comes to space and lunar themes, more than what is already being used among more mainstream designs. I have been wanting to design a pair of lunar socks for a while, but until recently I did not have the time to work on a more complicated knitting pattern, since I had college obligations. The socks are inspired by such structured maps and more organic lunar geographic features (craters, rocks, ridges). I used gray yarn for the socks to compliment the moon theme; the first pair I made used a darker grey, while the second pair, which I am finishing this week, is a lighter grey with tinges of blue. If you make the socks, you can use any color; I used grey because I wanted to stay with the moon theme, but I think the pattern could work well in a variety of other colors, at least those that lend to good cable definition (blue, red, pink, yellow, light brown, or light green). I might make another pair in a different color scheme, but for right now you can see the grey socks below, and on my social media channels.
If you would like to buy the pattern, you can do so below via Ravelry. You can also find the socks on my Ravelry, LoveCrafts, and Etsy stores (links available in the "shop" dropdown menu of my website).
Until next time!

Beautiful pattern, and I LOVE the colour and texture of the sock. They look so smooshy!
