Recently, I decided to add rose cellulose fiber to roving collection. I have not worked with it yet, since I am still practicing with basic wool roving. So far, however, I look the look and texture of the rose fiber: it is extremely soft and has nice sheen, almost like mulberry silk or bamboo. I have not decided what to make with it, but my current plan is to spin fingering or lace weight yarn and make a summer accessory, since rose fiber is lightweight. Whether I will dye the fiber or leave it as shown has also not been decided. What does everyone think?
Rose fiber is an ecofriendly cellulose (plant-based) alternative to silks. It is a more modern addition to the cellulose fibers (compared to others such as banana, pineapple, and ramie which have been used for centuries). Rose fiber, as a result, has not gotten much use or publicity, but hopefully it will gain in popularity, as it seems to be good quality, and beautiful.
Until next time!
